The recommended method for removing arrows from a target butt is ?
Grasp the end just forward of the fletches and give a slow and steady pull
Grab the arrow shaft just near the centre line and give a jerk and pull.
Wriggle the arrow left to right to loosen it then withdraw it slowly.
Grasp the arrow with one hand close to the entry point into the target and withdraw with a slight twisting motion.
How can you prevent injuries to yourself when preparing to score?
Let somebody else do it.
When approaching the target, walk in from the side to avoid any arrows protruding.
Stand well back directly in front of the target so you can see where the arrows have hit.
An archer in your group has managed to miss the target butt and put two arrows over the fence and into the bush. He can see where they have landed. He only has four arrows remaining for the rest of the competition. What action does he take?
He organises a lookout and quickly goes behind the safety barrier to retrieve his arrows.
He informs the DoS who will stop the shoot by raising the red flag. As soon as he recovers his arrows he reports to the DoS.
